Where are they?

After our lesson on the sixth commandment, You shall do no murder, where we talked about many issues including abortion one gentleman who I respect greatly came up to me afterward and asked me where I thought all those aborted fetuses were. I quickly responded that I believed that they were in heaven. Afterward I thought about that question and wondered if some believed that they were nothing more than garbage. If that was the case then why not abort. However, because we believe they have a soul and are persons then they will be in heaven.

what would you say are some of the main verses that support this belief for the unborn?

The one that is referred to most often is Psalm 139:13 - 16 but there are a number of other verses. Psalm 51:5 connects his sinful state at birth with his (not his mother's) sinful state at conception. Jeremiah 1:5 is another verse that comes to mind but I think the conception and birth of John the Baptist as described in Luke 1:41 - 44 is one of the strongest arguments.

I was also noticing in Exodus 21:22-25 about the laws pertaining to justice for a pregnant woman who suffers violence. It seems that if someones hits a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely, but the child is ok, the perpetrator must pay some retribution as the husband and judge sees fit. But if there is harm (and it seems to imply to either the mother or the unborn child), justice should be in the form of retaliation... life for life. This seems to imply that the Old Testament Law saw an unborn child as a life.

You are right. However, one Jewish writer says that the Hebrew translation is miscarrage rather than give birth prematurely. Therefore they do not understand that the fetus is a person and thus it is not considered murder.
