What is Hebrews about?

If God is so committed to our joy then why is life so hard? Hebrews points out that life is a journey; a journey from weariness to rest; a journey from alienation to the presence of God; a journey from isolation into the city of God. That is why the only way to keep on the journey is to keep our eyes on Christ. Hebrews 12:1 - 2 are the key to the book of Hebrews. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

I believe we fail to see the big picture and get tangled up in the circumstances of every day life. It's quite simple really, but very hard to keep in mind.

God created man
God and man communed in harmony
man rebelled against God
God cursed the earth
man must live in a cursed world
God sent His Son to pay for man's
rebellion by dying on the cross

man must continue to live in a cursed world

man has faith & hope of eternal life

man must still live in a cursed world

The Son returns to gather redeemed man

God and man commune together in harmony.

We are given the greatest example of this in the Exile from Egypt to the Promised Land.Although God did marvelous and wonderful miracles for the children of Israel, they still grumbled and complained for 40 years about how hard the journey was.
