Egypt and Canaan

The Israelites needed to be delivered from Egypt but overcome the Canaanites.  Egypt is often looked upon as a picture of the world while Canaan is the redeemed life.  Though Egypt is a picture of the world it held Israel in bondage.  They needed to be redeemed. Egypt then is the picture of the life held in the bondage of sin.
However, in Canaan the world was always trying to influence the people of God.  The world had been defeated but its influence still persisted.  The people of God wanted to be like the Canaanites.
Today the unredeemed need deliverance but the church needs to overcome.  The world wants to hold the unredeemed in bondage but when it loses that grip then it attempts to influence.

As my Pastor has been preaching through Exodus, he has said a number of times that, "the real miracle of Exodus was not getting the children of Israel out of Egypt, but getting the Egypt out of the children of Israel."

A very good insight.
