The largest piece of furniture in the Tabernacle was the brazen altar. It was the first piece of furniture that you would have come to when you entered the courtyard. No one could go in or out except by the altar.
Similarly there is no way to God but by the cross. Jesus died on the cross so that we could have access to God but it means that we must come in by the cross.
