Slow to learn

I was a Mathematics teacher and I had a variety of students, some where quick to learn while others were slow to learn. Of those that were slow to learn some just could not get their minds around mathematics but the majority were too lazy to learn. The recipients of the letter to the Hebrews were slow to learn. The author says that they should have moved on to maturity and become teachers themselves but they choose to remain behind like children.
The question I have is how do you motivate those who want to continue to feed on a baby diet and not move on to solid food?
