Our Example

I was called to task yesterday because I said that Christ did not come to be our example. I was then asked, "Who then is our example?" My answer, "Christ is our example." Though Christ did not come to be our example He is our example. Someone else said that I should have had the word just or primarily in there but I don't think so. I will say it again, "Christ did not come to be our example, He came to be our Saviour."

You are right, dad. If Christ came to be our example then his goal was to bring us to morality. But since he came to be our savior, his goal was for our redemption - to bring us back to Him.

The idea that Christ is our example is classic liberalism. But before he can be an example, he must be the Saviour. There is no example if there is no Saviour. So I'm not disagreeing with you or Kent; I'm just elaborating a bit more.

There is also the reality that we will not always be able to answer the question "WWJD?" because some of the works of Jesus were to authenticate his uniqueness as the Son of God.
