This blog is about what we are teaching in the adult Bible class and Sundays at Six at Gregory Drive Alliance Church of Chatham, Ontario. We have a passion for the Word of God as it reveals God. It is our desire that everyone in the class will be students of the Word.

Call to Worship
What has happened to the call to worship in our churches today? The other Sunday instead of a call to worship I saw a video on how we can have our needs met. Now that is true and it is important that people are aware of that but we must be careful not to have our focus on ourselves when we come to worship. A call to worship should turn our thoughts to our Creator and off of our needs.

The 'call to worship' is rooted in a theological conviction that Protestants have lost in their therapeutic, entertainment based craze: the Word of God creates God's people, and God invites us to worship him. "Come to me, all who are weary and heavy burdened, and I will give you rest."
But when we think we come and we choose to worship God, we forget who is doing the inviting: are we inviting God's presence, or is God inviting us? There's a big difference and it shows in how the rest of the service is conducted.

How about inviting others to come to worship with you?
