Peter's second example is the people in Noah's day. "if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others." 2 Peter 2:5
What was the sin of the people in Noah's day? They were ignorant of God's truth and they didn't care. As Peter says in verse 12 that they "blaspheme in matters they do not understand". Today we have people who do not understand doctrine and they don't care that they don't understand. They love to say, "No creed but Christ" or "Doctrine divides, Christ unites." However, without doctrine do they really know Christ? Remember the Holy Spirit inspired God's Word and that is not for us to ignore.
